Louie, because most lingnam style bonsai in competitions / exhibitions have very well-developed, beautiful branches that are so fine in great details. It would be a waste if the artist doesn't show off this awesome part of his/her tree but let it covered with foliage :)

Min hsuan Lo, and that guy from lingnam...hmm...

Sandy, agree with you on the harsh wind style tree you took at the Guangzhou exhibit.
it really a favorite of mine too. have seen this concept in forest plantings and think they stand
out as some of the best in that you can "feel" the movement of the tree.

A hui ho !! Randy

Yes I think so. Orange Jasmine's bark is dark gray in color, but underneath the sub-bark has a creamy, off-white color.

indeed, amazing tree.
I went to a local nursery - they have tree which is 4 years old and cost something like 90$
but the texture of the trunk is diffrent.is is not so smoove like the tree that you present. but when I peeled some of the bark then I saw under the smooth white like the tree in your pictures
I wonder if this is how the bark looks when the tree is old or they pilled of some of the bark ?
