I am looking for a tray/pot much like what you used in this demonstration, Sandy. I want to do a seascape, and ideally it would be the same color and depth, oval or round, 18-20" on the long side. Where would one acquire such a pot? Thank you for your helpful demonstration.

I don't have the bonsai with me on hand now. It's about 30cm long.

Hi Lito,

A saikei looks very much like a penjing, doesn't it? Quoted from Wikipedia -

Saikei is a descendant of the Japanese arts of bonsai, bonseki, and bonkei, and is related less directly to similar miniature-landscape arts like the Chinese penjing and the Vietnamese hòn non bô.

Actually, I wouldn't put the penjing and saikei together and do a comparison between the two for they are in different levels. Penjing is a superclass, under penjing there are many types and styles. Instead, it may be more suitable to compare saikei with water-and-land penjing. And as much as I know, unlike water-and-land penjing, one cannot find any bonsai figurine in a Saikei.

To learn more about the similarities and differences among bonsai, bonseki, bonkei, saikei, penjing, etc, you may start from the post in Wikipedia about saikei which I have found quite helpful :)
